Carissa Performs in the Luna Talent Show
Carissa tried out as a solo hula hooping act a few weeks ago. Mrs. Knagg , her music teacher, thought her routine was so fantastic that she had Carissa teach it to 2 other kids in the school. Tonight the 3 kids hula hooped to the "Cha Cha Slide" in Luna's annual Talent Show. Sorry about the shakiness of the video as I am not good at keeping still and I really didn't get the other 2 in the video. I am really proud of my shy little lady for coming out of her shell, being a leader and hula hooping in front of a packed house!
For some reason I can't get the video to load on to the blog. Here is a link so you can check it out:

Dallas Arboretum Field Trip with Bobby's class
Today the entire 1st grade went to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens (www.dallasarboretum.org) for a science field trip. The Gardens overlook White Rock Lake which adds to the beauty of the flower gardens and glass sculptures. Jacob's mom, Karen, and I led a group of 8 and sometimes 9 kids around for the day. We had time to explore the gardens, attend a class on the plant life cycle and ate lunch at the picnic area . The class was amazing and the kids had some hands on learning. I am officially exhausted since the boys were a little on the wild side (probably because there are only 5 days of school left)!!!

So long soccer, see you in the fall
On Saturday, Jenna's team played their final game of the season. On Sunday afternoon, the team got together for a party at a park. The girls and siblings fished, had water balloon and water gun fights, and ate BBQ that was cooked by coach. Jenna was the top scorer for her team. We are proud of how hard Jenna played this season. While we are sad to see the season end, we are happy knowing Jenna will play with the same team next fall.

Jenna
Every year the 5th graders from Luna Elementary go on a 3 day retreat. This year they are attending Pine Cove Camp (www.pinecove.com) in Tyler, Texas.
At the beginning of the year, I volunteered to help with 5th grade fundraising. At the first meeting I met Amanda who's daughter, Kailynn, is in 5th grade, too. I didn't think that volunteering would bring me such a dear friend. We worked so very hard all year long to raise funds for the bus and to award scholarships for a few deserving students. Our hard work paid off and the 5th graders were sent off in style on a double-decker bus. Thanks, Amanda! I think we make a great team and am sad that our year is coming to an end. I'm going to miss our Friday trips to Sam's, the talking and crazy candy sales!
Jenna will be posting her very 1st blog about camp when she returns. I miss her already but I know she and her classmates are going to have a wonderful time.

Luna Choir Competition/Mothers Day Weekend 2012
On Friday, the girls honor choir went to Texas A&M Commerce for a competition. The choir won a gold metal for receiving 90's and above from all 3 judges. We had some downtime while not competing and the girls in my group fed the ducks and went swimming in the campus pool.
On Saturday, we attended the Rangers game. The Rangers players against the LA Angels with CJ Wilson (a former Ranger) pitching against the Rangers. Unfortunately, the Rangers lost but we were able to see Josh Hamilton hit another home run! Hamilton is making major baseball history and it was fun for us to watch him play. Of course, Bobby can't wait to play for the Rangers and thinks its awesome that Ian Kinsler plays 2nd base and is #5 just like he is.
For Mother's Day we decided to head to the Ft. Worth Zoo. The zoo was amazing and is well worth the drive from our house. The animals were all out and active since it was 80 degrees. We enjoyed all of the animals especially the chimps. The kids and I would secretly love to have a chimp as a pet, but we know dad would never agree. Plus, being the animal lovers that we are know its not really the best idea.

Our Weekend
This weekend Jenna's soccer team, The Green Hornets, played in their first tournament. The team won 1 of their 3 games. The girls played hard in an older age bracket and I think the challenging play will make them better players. Other than that, Bobby had baseball practice both Saturday and Sunday; Carissa slept out at a friend's house and we swam in the pool. Hope you had a great weekend, too!
